lib: fix static analysis issues, use regfree()

* Fix potential NULL dereference
* Fix use of uninitialized value
* Fix leaking memory by not freeing regex_t
* Fix extra \n when using empty regex filter
* Clean up still-reachable hook memory
* Handle nonexistent pager
